‘Tis the season to be social

Everybody loves the holidays. The social space was filled with holly jolly tweets, the occasional stressful status update and some awesome campaigns! Here are some of our favs:

The Roasterie’s “10 Likes of Christmas”

Each day, for 10 days, The Roasterie gave away a different prize. To enter, its Facebook fans just had to “like” The Roasterie’s post and comment on it. A simple campaign, but a great way to build a following and please your customers! We became fans of The Roasterie because of this campaign!

emfluence’s “World’s Largest Twitter Snowball”

emfluence, a digital marketing agency based in Kansas City, had an original e-mail/Twitter campaign. The company’s holiday e-card linked to this site, a page where you can tweet using the hashtag #emflHOHO. The tweets make up this “snowball.” It’s a fun way to bring the emfluence community together via Twitter. Cool!

Bombshell’s “Hope for the Holidays Fund Raiser”

Bombshell, the pinup photography studio in Lawrence, Kan., ran a special holiday promotion for a good cause. Using Facebook (they have 8,000+ fans), they offered a special holiday shoot with Santa. In the $50 package, you received a 6″ X 9″ print and a Facebook profile picture — how clever! We couldn’t help but take advantage of this fun deal.  As an added bonus, proceeds benefited Hope for the Holidays.

OfficeMax’s “Elf Yourself”

This isn’t new. It’s been around since 2007. But it continues to be a favorite. Why? Because it’s fun! And quite clever. OfficeMax really got it right with this one. Elfyourself.com (powered by JibJab) is not an OfficeMax promotional overload. It’s a free service where customers (such as office workers looking to waste time online during hours) can upload a photo and “elf” themselves. Again, a simple idea. But brilliant.

A great holiday campaign is so much more than a coupon. While a coupon might be enough incentive for a customer to make a one-time purchase, a solid social media campaign requires more interaction and makes a bigger, long-term impact.
