Social media in bathroom stalls? QuikTrip leads the way!

by Cara Breeden on May 18, 2010

I went to QuikTrip, the best gas station in the world, and got a kick out of this advertisement painted on the tile in the bathroom stalls.

It makes me giggle, but it’s actually great marketing. Everyone who uses the restroom will see it — after all, there’s nothing else to look at!

At least it worked for me. I now “like” QuikTrip on Facebook, and I like them a little bit more in real life for being so social. (Check out QuikTrip’s Fan Page.)

Of course, I immediately posted pictures with Twitpic to share with the Twittersphere, and a couple of you had funny responses –

@Aaron_VH:  ”They should’ve had a ms tag or stickybit you could scan while using the facilities.”

@markvanbaale: “Did you check-in at that stall? LOL”

Ideas for the future . . . although as much as I like location-based social media, I’m not sure that I would want to see a history on Foursquare or Gowalla of who checked in at the stall I was using . . . unless there was a frequent cleaning staff member checking in.

And for all interested, there is even an iPhone app called iPoo that  ”brings together pooers from around the world.” You can share with others and even draw graffiti on the virtual stalls. It’s kind of disgusting really . . . but as of today it had three out of five stars and 388 ratings.

The lesson from all this? Nothing is immune to being transformed by social media.
